The Kazimierz Wielki University Museum was established by Order No. 26/2016/2017 of the Rector of UKW dated February 6, 2017, regarding the Organizational Regulations of the UKW Library. Within the Library’s structure, the Museum Collections Department was created, and within it, the University Museum Section. The establishment phase of the Museum was supported by the Team for the Organization of the University Museum, appointed by the Rector.
The Museum’s mission is to collect memorabilia related to the Higher Teacher Training School (established in 1969) and its successors: the Higher Pedagogical School (1974-2000), the Pedagogical Academy (2000-2005), and the Kazimierz Wielki University (2005-). The Museum’s task will be to showcase the place and role of the University in the life of the city, region, Poland, and in world science.
The main part of the collections is intended to present the development of the University as an academic institution (structures and infrastructure) and the individuals associated with Kazimierz Wielki University – employees, students, alumni, as well as entities cooperating with UKW. An important element will be to show scientific, didactic, organizational, artistic, sports, and other achievements, as well as the everyday life of the University (course of study, employee careers). Therefore, documents relating to the University’s activities are acquired for the Museum: reports, early diplomas, honorary doctorate diplomas, professorial nominations, outstanding works of scholars, photographs, recordings, interviews, news services, journals (including student newspapers), commemorative objects (insignia, banners, decorations, trophies, portraits, plans, etc.), as well as elements of equipment significant to the institution’s history.
The collections are stored and exhibited in the UKW Library building. Temporary exhibitions will be located in various UKW buildings. Some objects are also to be presented in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Digital Library http://kpbc.ukw.edu.pl, in the “Memory of Bydgoszcz Residents – oral history archive” database http://pamiecbydgoszczan.ukw.edu.pl/, and in the repository http://repozytorium.ukw.edu.pl/.
